Administrator Letter

December 2008

It's been a long time since I posted an administrator letter on here.  I apologize for the lapse.  I've been super busy with a change of employment and some side projects.  The change of employment was from iProvo to UTOPIA.  The move was a good one for me, but has certainly meant long working hours and very little free time to spend on here.  However, I'm still here, and I'm going to try to become more involved in the community again.

Some of the reason for the lapse in letters can also be attributed to very little going on at Traverse Mountain.  There really haven't been many changes or big events (except for the summer July 4 celebration) to report back on.  Much of this, I'm sure, is due to the current economic situation and housing downturn.  However, Traverse Mountain remains a beautiful community and continues to grow (abeit at a slower pace).  Most residents still enjoy the area despite the developers complete unwillingness to provide any promised amenities.  Their excuse is the current lack of cash flow, which is understandable, but inexcusable considering that those amenities should have been built up front.  Even the lower priced amenities (i.e. wilderness trails) are non-existant which seems to challenge if there ever was any intent to provide such amenities even when cash flow was plentiful.

As for good news, at least there is movement in the area around Traverse Mountain.  The Smiths Marketplace just up the road is a welcome addition.  Being as large as it is, I'm glad it isn't at our doorstep, but it's still close enough to be more convenient than previous options.  The Kneaders that opened up in front of it also give TM residents another local fast food option.  It doesn't come close to being as good as the Paradise Bakery that opened up in AF, but it's convenience is certainly a compelling reason to go there.  Plans for improvements to the The Point (formerly Open Court) and plans for Thanksgiving Station (huge outdoor mall planned at Thanksgiving Point) are passing through the city council and could bring a lot of life to the area.
